Meet Bernard Recommends: South East London Plant Shops

Posted on

At Meet Bernard, we’re enthusiastic amateurs when it comes to plants. Not only do they add a formidable feng shui to any room, they’ve been proven to boost moods, increase creativity, reduce stress, and eliminate air pollution.

But whilst we can’t get enough of house plants, we’re also not the most green-fingered shop owners in South-East London; that's why beautiful pots to dress your plants up in is as far as we tend to venture in the horticultural world.

So we thought we’d give a shout out to those expert plant dealers in the area – because without them, our homes would be that bit more sterile.

Go and check them out, and don’t forget to tell them that Meet Bernard sent you.

MMEA, Forest Hill

MMEA Forest Hill

MMEA is a green sanctuary in the heart of Forest Hill. The store is only in its infancy after opening just 10 weeks ago, but already they’ve made waves in the neighbourhood.

The jungle-like interior is bold and abundant, with rare picks like the Philodendron Xanadu on show. What’s more, they offer workshops in floristry and mindfulness and floristry styling. MMEA is definitely one to watch!

Fresh Flower CO, East Dulwich

Fresh Flower Co East Dulwich

Fresh Flower Co is a one-stop for anything floristry. Offering everything from flower arrangement classes to wedding and event flowers, Fresh flower Co is a safe pair of hands when it comes to horticulture.

Right next door to our East Dulwich flagship store, you’ll often find us sipping a coffee and perusing plants we don’t know the name of in our downtime. And if you're not local to North Cross Road, they deliver nationwide too: what’s not to love?

39a North Cross Road, East Dulwich, SE22 9ET

The Nunhead Gardener

The Nunhead Gardener

The Nunhead Gardener is, unsurprisingly, in Nunhead. Set up 5 years ago and run by a local couple, the Nunhead Gardener has to be one of our favourite stores to browse on a weekend. Upon arrival you'll be hit with the fragrances of scented candles and an array of flowers, and the decor is beautifully stylised.

The garden centre outside is situated under the arches of the railway, which makes it feel like a true urban oasis. The staff are as lovely as they are knowledgeable, so poke your nose in when you need to up your houseplant game.

Battersea Flower Station

Battersea Flower Station

Battersea Flower Station has an other-worldly feel. The owners had the vision of creating a place of magic and beauty in the heart of London, and it certainly worked. The long, thin stretch of land is situated alongside the railway arches in Battersea, giving it an unmistakable aesthetic.

Battersea flower station is certainly a household name in London floristry. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favour and check them out.

Just like Meet Bernard, many of these stores have not had the easiest time over the past year. But it’s people like you who keep these amazing stores open, so keep doing what you’re doing.
