Local Heroes: Rounding Up Our Favourite East Dulwich Shops

Posted on

If lockdown has taught us anything, it’s how much we rely on our local stores. We’re so grateful to be a part of such a tight-knit group of independent businesses in East Dulwich and Greenwich – these are the stores that make our local area special, and they should be celebrated for that. Last year we took some time to shout out some of our favourites from our Greenwich neck of the woods, and we figured it was about time we did the same down in ED. So, without further ado, let's dive in to our favourite independent stores in East Dulwich.

Postmark

Our neighbours in both East Dulwich AND Greenwich, Postmark has saved our skin on multiple occasions. Their gorgeous store is adorned with cards for all occasions, from birthdays to Bar Mitzvahs, and you can always expect a friendly smile and a word of advice from the lovely folks working away within. We've all got FaceTime fatigue right now, so there's never been a better time to pop a card in the post and let someone know you're thinking of them. Check out their website, or visit them in-store (when you’re allowed, of course.)

Forest London

Forest London is an urban oasis. During lockdown, we’ve found that plants have helped to keep our homes feeling fresh and our minds clear, and they've got a wonderful selection in their tucked-away spot off Lordship Lane. Their monthly workshops are also a treat, teaching everything from flower arrangement to candle making. They're open for collections right now if you're lucky enough to live by their East Dulwich or Deptford outposts, but for those of you further afield, they deliver for free nationwide. (And you can get 10% off your first order – what's not to love?)

Rye Books

The relief of diving into a good book is a welcome relief in ‘these uncertain times’, and when you're shopping for books, the smaller you shop the better. Rye Books is the sort of beautifully cosy store that every local area needs, and we definitely pine for settling into their cafe with a new novel to get our teeth into. If you're after something new to read but you’re not sure where to start, the bookworms at Rye are never short of suggestions. Visit their site to find your next page-turner (and, like us, they offer free delivery for SE postcodes).

Rouiller White

A design-lead interiors boutique and independent perfumery, Rouiller White makes for a true Dulwich staple with their eclectic mix of pieces. Whilst exotic and adventurous fragrances are their speciality, it’s also a go-to for grooming and home products that make wonderful gifts for yourself or a loved one. Rouiller White is quintessentially Dulwich, and you could spend hours in there giving all their delightful scents a good inhale. As soon as we can, we'll be back. Check out their site and peruse their goodies.

Without our local stores, our local areas cease to be the special places they are. It’s because of you lovely people that Meet Bernard, and others stores like us, have been able to stay in business. For that, we thank and you salute you. If you're after more South East London goodness, we'd be foolish not to shout out our friends at the South East London Edit and their excellent guide to our end (and not just because we're in there, even if that does help).

For now, and as always, stay safe and shop local.

Love,

The MB family x
