How we’re dressing for a post-Covid wedding

Posted on

If you’ve barely even worn a shirt for work in the past year, the thought of formal dressing for the return of weddings this summer may sound daunting – but it needn’t be. If the pandemic has taught us anything about how we dress it’s to never take an opportunity for granted. So this summer more than ever, we want our look to be on point – not just to showcase our style to those who may have forgotten what we look like since last year. But to ensure that we feel great, too.

At Meet Bernard, we love a good bit of tailoring. But rather than a stuffy one-size-fits-all formal outfit, we’re here for more casual pieces that look just as sophisticated, but feel more relaxed. Remember that, even if you’ve not seen them since last summer, your mate’s wedding isn’t the right time to push boundaries. So if the dress code calls for something formal, you’ll still need to dress up.

Guys should look to short sleeved shirts that combine casual comfort with a formal collar like the Kestin Crammond or a classic linen FOLK grandad shirt, while a summery printed maxi dress like Fabienne Chapot’s Sunset style is a perfect feminine choice. And once wedding season has passed, you’ll be reaching for them to wear on the weekend, too.

If you’ve got a little more space for statement-making, keep it on-trend so it doesn’t feel too out-there. We’re loving this metallic Stine Goya Amira dress, and the floaty romantic feel of YMC’s Paloma. Guys should stick to the classic shirt style, but opt for bold colours or prints, like the EDWIN Moment of Bliss shirt or Afield’s Selleck style.

Unlike the Zoom hangs you’ve got used to, where the forgiving lens of your webcam won’t expose the sweatpants and slippers hidden under your desk, a pair of smart trousers is essential for guys at weddings. But that doesn’t mean they can’t be comfortable, cool, and contemporary too. We’re opting for tailored separates with a loose-fitting trouser like Stan Ray’s olive pleated chinos. Trust us: worn with a smart-yet-comfortable shirt and an unstructured blazer, you’re bound to be the sartorial envy of the guest list.

For women who dread the ache of high heels, we say ditch them in favour of some comfy sandals that look just as sophisticated like the Naxos plaited sandals from Feeka. Or, if you’ve missed the joy of getting dressed up and can’t wait to slip into a stiletto, Alohas twist shoes are the perfect combination of smart shoe and summery sandal.

So that’s your look sorted. Now all that’s left is to secure an elusive post-lockdown slot at the barbers.
