Boat Floaters - June 2019

Posted on

June = summer. Fittingly, I've selected 29 tunes for this month's Meet Bernard playlist that will provide a decent backdrop to your sunshine-powered days – well, at least for two hours.

There is plenty of new goodness here, including from Abstract Orchestra's latest flip on MF Doom's tunes (Meat Grinder), drum-and-bass vibes from Lenzman, whose Rain features the unstoppable Children of Zeus, and Turkish talents Altin Gun's Anlatmam Derdimi

There is more nouveau freshness from Brazilian producer Afterclapp (Zambi), the incredibly gifted Georgia Anne Muldrow (When the Fonk Radiates) – turn up the bass – and I love JJ's Groove by Dead Horse Beats. There is a sprinkling of slightly older – as in one- or two-year old – tracks, like Mysteria by Finnish wonder Jimi Tenor, and DjeuhDjoah El Nino, Lieutenant Nicholson's El Nino

My favourite discovery of the month, however, is Nakombe Nga by Les Choc Stars du Zaire – a beauty of a tune from 1989, which is 10 years older than I Wanna Hold onto You by Loose Change, another pleasing find. The oldest of the lot is Connie Laverne's Can't Live Without You (1974). What a beaut.

This selection also features one of my all-time favourite summer anthems: Sun by Caribou. It'll be a decade old next year, and hearing it can't fail to evoke happy memories of festival fun. I wish you and yours a memory-making summertide, and will touch toes with more Boat Floaters when I return from my travels.

Yours in music,

Ollie (Boat Floaters)
