carhartt Blackbird Fly Camera!

Autumn/Winter 2011 is starting to trickle in now.  Carhartt goodies arrived today featuring the Carhartt Blackbird Fly Camera! Bernard’s really excited about this beauty!

Carhartt Blackbird Fly Camera

The Carhartt Blackbird, Fly is in short a Twin-Reflex 35mm Camera.

According to blackbirdflycamera.com, it is unique for several reasons:

1) It’s a successor to a classic! It seems the Blackbird, Fly is considered the Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) version of the classic Holga, which is in turn a successor to the Diana, both of which have a real cult following. Some call the Holga a “toy” camera, which is of course a bit of a misnomer. Many have relied on it to take beautiful photos. Yet the Holga is also known for its unpredictability, as everyone is just a little different. Most have light leaks, and those leaks are not going to be the same between any two Holgas. This unpredictability contributes to much of their charm, and was taken to the extreme by some photographers as it became a popular camera for “shooting from the hip”. Many Holga mods have also become very popular.

2) It’s a TLR! The Blackbird, Fly, is a Twin Lens Reflex (TLR) camera, meaning that there are two objective lenses: One for taking the photograph, and one for the waist-level viewfinder. Behind the viewfinder lens is a mirror at a 45-degree angle (hence the term “reflex”), which reflects upwards through a matter focusing screen surrounded by a hood/enclosure used to block some light and reduce reflection on the screen. This creates an image on the screen identical to what will be captured on film through the photographic lens.

3) It uses 35mm film! Most TLR cameras use 120 format film. Although 120 film is very cool, it can be much harder to find and even harder to get developed. With 35mm film you can just drop it off at the nearest 1-hour photo!

4) 3 formats! You can shoot in 3 formats (using provided masks): normal 35mm (24mm x 36mm), square format (24mm x 24mm), and large square format (36mm x 36mm).

5) It’s VERY reasonable! Many TLRs are hundreds of pounds, and although some of them are worth it, the Carhartt Blackbird, Fly is just £110. It’s an amazing TLR for hobbyists to creative professionals to everyone in between.

6) Colours, colours, colours! Seriously, how many cameras have multiple colour options?

New Drop! Nizza Hi CL Autumn/Winter 2011

Nizza Hi CL brand new for Autumn/Winter 2011!

The life of the adidas Nizza Hi started as a humble basketball shoe, resurrected once again, now as part of adidas Originals range in a canvas and leather trim. An upgrade from the conventional canvas uppers, the new uppers are slightly coarse to the touch and cradles your feet in comfort. Crisp white foxing on the vulcanized soles creates a good tonal balance in colour. Leather tongue detailing and three stripes on the side provide the subtle branding. These really are one of the coolest kicks to be released this season. Grab ‘em while you can…

Re Stock of EDWIN ED-47 Rainbow Selvage! Bernard’s got ‘em back!

By mbcrew June 24, 2011.

Back in stock!!

Before wearing your unwashed Edwin selvage ED-47s, the Edwin team recommends that you take the time to rinse your jeans.  People do this their own way like  taking a shower in your jeans. This allows the denim to find its natural form to your shape.  This method, is our favourite as it helps to slow down indigo loss.  Alternatively, you could sit in the bath, rinse by hand or run a delicate cold machine wash.

If you are adventurous, swimming in the sea or jumping into a mountain stream can also be a fun alternative.

Prior to your first real wash, we recommend that you wear them for as long as possible.  Six months is a good length of time as this allows a natural beautiful wear process to occur, unique to your jeans.

The guys at Edwin say’s ‘It’s a partnership between yourself and your jeans, a distinctive journey, a blueprint of a period of your life.  The characteristics of wear will depend on your particular regime and lifestyle.  Each jean will be unique, carrying memories distinctive to your journey’.

With this in mind, and whilst we love to see Edwin jeans worn for as long as possible for the best personal wash effect, if the denim starts to have an undesired aroma, for general hygiene, we suggest a rinse or first real wash.  Some choose not to wash and simply let nature take its cause by airing naturally, it probably depends on how many friends you wish to keep happy ……  Every denim product will lose its colour.  This is due to the special indigo dying process.  After several washes, the loss of colour will reduce and in time will stop.  Wash separately and always inside-out hand wash or delicate machine programme.  Use a little amount of washing powder {without bleaching agent}.  Dry naturally and do not iron for the best long term effect.
