Latest news from OBEY!

By mbcrew July 18, 2012.

At OBEY Clothing UK HQ they are all super excited about the Autumn 12 collaboration with the Keith Haring Foundation. There is a natural connection between the careers of Keith Haring and Shepard Fairey, from their ability to take their art from the streets into the realm of fine art galleries, as well as their philosophy of making art accessible to everyone.

Here’s what Shepard Fairey has to say:

“Though Keith Haring died only two years after I started making street art, his art and practice had already made a profound impact on me. At art college and on the streets of NYC in the late 80’s and early 90’s, Keith’s radiant baby and other images could be seen on the tees of all the flyest hipsters. Keith Haring was a prolific artist with a distinct style of drawing and painting that was simultaneously refined, but primitive, deliberate but lyrical and energetic. Haring believed “the public has a right to art” and this philosophy informed his populist approach to spreading his art and messages. He pursued his art with a deeply personal vision, but also as a champion of social justice and a belief in the interconnectedness of humanity. Haring demonstrated the power of art on the streets, but he also put his art on t-shirts and record covers. He even opened a retail space in NYC called The Pop Shop. Eventually Haring’s artwork became widely respected, displayed, and sold as “fine art”. Haring rose from the 80’s NYC graffiti scene to not only affect the art world, but to dramatically impact pop culture. Inspired by Keith Haring’s achievements, I pursued my art career with the optimism that my goals could be attained.”

NEW AUTUMN/WINTER 2012 OBEY COMING TO MEET BERNARD SOON!

EDWIN A/W12 First Look!

By mbcrew July 16, 2012.

‘The true spirit of Edwin Jeans is created over time, by the person living in them… making everyday count with yesterday’s memories etched into the grain of the denim… safe in the knowledge that tomorrow’s good times are still to be created’.

Arriving at Meet Bernard very soon, the new Autumn Winter 2012 collection, is defined by its focus on freedom, where a sense of shared isolation among the wilds of the world creates the foundation for a heightened sense of kinship.

This band of brothers & sisters ride, side by side, in a relentless pursuit of adventure. The cloth that surrounds them becomes the rivets that bond their lives to the memories they create, their clothing an ever evolving recollection of time.

From the cities we roam, and eventually endeavour to escape, Edwin seeks to provide product designed for daily use, a canvas for living, uninterested in emulating fashions or passing trends.

This seasons denim is a blend of premium Japanese and European fabrics, many of which are exclusively developed by Edwin, and wear-patterns are based on natural washes painstakingly re-created. Black denim has been densely over-dyed into colours to create deep, muted olive, dusty burgundy and ashy okra tones that are then re-washed to allow the fabrics natural character to subtly emerge beneath the oaky winter colour pallet.
